Zurich Insurance is seeking an experienced Property & Casualty Underwriter to join its commercial underwriting team. This role is responsible for evaluating insurance applications, analyzing risk exposures, determining policy terms, and maintaining a profitable portfolio of commercial business. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical capabilities, underwriting expertise, and the ability to build productive relationships with brokers, agents, and clients.
As a Property & Casualty Underwriter, you will play a key role in assessing business risks, reviewing financial information, and making informed underwriting decisions that support company growth and profitability. You will work closely with brokers, risk engineers, account managers, and internal stakeholders to deliver customized insurance solutions for commercial clients across a range of industries.

Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate commercial insurance submissions, underwriting applications, and renewal business for property and casualty lines.
- Analyze risk exposures, financial statements, business operations, and industry-specific factors to assess insurability.
- Determine coverage eligibility, pricing, terms, conditions, and policy structure in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Develop, manage, and grow a profitable portfolio of commercial accounts while balancing risk and business opportunity.
- Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal teams to provide underwriting solutions that meet client needs.
- Review loss history, claims trends, inspection reports, and market conditions to support underwriting decisions.
- Negotiate coverage terms, pricing, and account structure within delegated underwriting authority.
- Maintain compliance with company underwriting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Support new business development, broker engagement, and client retention efforts.
- Prepare underwriting reports, portfolio reviews, and performance analyses for management and business planning purposes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of property and casualty underwriting experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, risk assessment, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Solid knowledge of commercial insurance products, underwriting principles, and risk evaluation processes.
- Ability to assess complex business risks and make sound underwriting recommendations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and underwriting systems or insurance platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Commercial Lines underwriting.
- Professional insurance designations such as CPCU, AU, or similar credentials.
- Experience handling middle-market or large commercial accounts.
- Strong financial statement analysis and business risk evaluation skills.
- Excellent negotiation, portfolio management, and underwriting judgment capabilities.
